La Segunda Declaración de Durban ¡Acceso, Equidad, Derechos – Ya!
Se han dado avances importantes en la respuesta al SIDA desde que la comunidad global del VIH se reunió por última vez en Durban en el año 2000. La reducción en la propagación del VIH fue el primer paso. Acelerar las inversiones y acciones como parte de una agenda robustecida de derechos humanos y justicia social es el próximo.
A pesar de los logros científicos significativos, continuamos encontrando barreras estructurales que impiden avances en la vida real. Para hacer realidad la promesa que implican los avances científicos requerimos de un mayor compromiso para remover las barreras entre el descubrimiento y la implementación. La Vigésimo Primera Conferencia Internacional del SIDA (SIDA 2016) debe reunir esas piezas – los avances científicos clave necesarios para darle fin a la epidemia y las barreras estructurales clave que impiden seguir adelante – y asegurar un mayor compromiso político, incluyendo recursos financieros, para poder lograr el objetivo.

There has been remarkable progress in our response to AIDS since the global HIV community last convened in Durban in 2000. Curbing the spread of HIV was the first step . Accelerating investment and action on a robust human rights and social justice agenda is the next.
Despite significant scientific advancements, we continue to encounter structural barriers that impede real world progress. Realizing the promise of scientific achievement requires a greater commitment to removing barriers between discovery and implementation. The 21st International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2016) must bring these pieces together – the key scientific advances needed to end the epidemic and the key structural barriers impeding progress – and secure greater political commitment including financial resources to get the job done.

Da comienzo la Conferencia Indígena Internacional sobre el SIDA para la AIDS 2016 de Sudáfrica
Líderes del Grupo de Trabajo Indígena Internacional sobre el VIH y el SIDA (IIWGHA, por sus siglas en inglés) provenientes de México, Estados Unidos, Bolivia, Chile, Guatemala, Australia, Canadá y Nueva Zelandia, anunciaron la organización de la Sexta Preconferencia Indígena Internacional sobre el VIH y SIDA, denominada Reivindicación de las voces indígenas: Nuestras vidas, nuestra salud, nuestro futuro, que se realizará en Durban justo antes de la Conferencia Internacional sobre el SIDA (AIDS 2016) a celebrarse en Umhlanga Ridge, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Sudáfrica, el 16 y 17 de julio de 2016.

The leaders of the International Indigenous Work Group on HIV and AIDS (IIWGHA), from Mexico, the United States, Bolivia, Chile, Guatemala, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, announced the organization of the Sixth Pre-International Indigenous Conference on HIV and AIDS, called Vindication of indigenous voices: Our lives, our health, our future, which will be held in Durban, just before the International Conference AIDS 2016 to be held in Umhlanga Ridge, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on July 16 and 17, 2016.

Durban, South Africa – The urgent need to address the global TB epidemic was in focus this weekend in Durban, as TB experts, health professionals, political leaders, civil society, and communities affected by TB convened at the TB2016 conference. TB2016 was coordinated by the International AIDS Society (IAS) and held directly prior to the 21st International AIDS Conference.

No More Lip Service: Una demanda de acceso a PrEP de la Comunidad Transgénero

Global Forum on MSM & HIV Por primera vez en la historia, el programa de la Conferencia Internacional sobre el SIDA incluyó una conferencia previa centrada en personas transgénero llamada No More Lip Service: Trans Access, Equity and Rights, Now! (Basta de Palabrería: Acceso, Igualdad y Derechos Transgénero Ya!) El programa reunió a personas y activistas trans de todo el mundo, incluyendo Perú, Malasia, Tailandia, EE.UU., India y muchos países de áfrica, entre otros. JoAnne Keatly, EE.UU., y Amitava Sarkar, India, actuaron como co-presidentes de la reunión, que dedicó una jornada entera al enfoque en las necesidades, la actualización en la investigación y el desarrollo de capacidades.

No More Lip Service: A Demand for PrEP Access from the Transgender Community

Global Forum on MSM & HIV For the first time ever, the program for the International AIDS Conference has included a pre-conference focused on transgender people called No More Lip service: Trans Access, Equity and Rights, Now! The program brought together global trans people and activists from Peru, Malaysia, Thailand, United States, India and many other countries in Africa and around the world. JoAnne Keatly, USA, and Amitava Sarkar, India, served as co-chairs for the meeting, which included an entire day of focus on the needs, update research, and capacity building.

El 18 de julio, en el marco de la Conferencia Internacional de sida, se realizó una de las más grandes marchas –se puede decir- en la historia del VIH. Por las calles principales de la ciudad de Durban, caminaron, cantaron y bailaron miles de personas bajo el lema ¡El sida todavía mata, tratamientos para todos ya!

Evidencia científica muestra beneficios de PrEP en población joven

El uso de la profilaxis pre exposición continúa siendo un tema de estudio para múltiples equipos de científicos alrededor del mundo a fin de mejorar los esquemas e idear mejores maneras de promover su uso, sobretodo, después de la Organización Mundial de la Salud sugiriera su ofrecimiento a “personas en situación de riesgo sustancial de infección por el VIH”, y de que, Estados Unidos aprobará su uso en 2012, aunque únicamente para mayores de edad.

Scientific evidence shows benefits of PrEP in young population

The use of pre-exposure prophylaxis is still a subject of study for multiple scientific teams all over the world in order to improve the schemes and think of better ways to promote its use, especially after the World Health Organization suggested offering it to “people in significant risk of infection due to HIV”, and that the United States approved its use in 2012, although only for adults.
